Our story
Discover the key milestones in the story of Les Amis des Sentiers
and our commitment to trail preservation.
Creation des Amis des Sentiers
Les Amis des Sentiers de Bromont were created in 2003 by a group of passionate citizens, then transferred to the registrar in 2004, to maintain and promote the region’s trail network. This network now forms the Parc des Sommets de Bromont, which includes over 150 km of trails accessible for various outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing, in addition to equestrian trails.
Formation IMBA
The organization invites IMBA Canada IMBA (International Mountain Bicycling Association) to train its members in sustainable trail development, particularly in the Mont Oak sector.
Mountain bike development
The year 2013 marked a turning point in the development of mountain biking, with the establishment of signage and the creation of dedicated maps. In 2014, an intensification of efforts began for mountain biking on Mount Oak.
Builders’ Campaign
On December 12, 2016, Les Amis des Sentiers joined forces with
Nature Conservancy of Canada, Protégeons Bromont, and the City
to launch the fundraising campaign for the future Parc des Sommets.
Management recommendation
In May 2017, in a grant application to the Ministry of Tourism, the City proposed that Les Amis des Sentiers take over the park’s operations, subject to an adjustment of their governance.
Acquisition of the Park
The City of Bromont officially acquires the 150 hectares intended
for the Parc des Sommets.
Municipal adoption
The municipal council unanimously adopted a resolution to designate Les Amis des Sentiers as manager of the Parc des Sommets de Bromont, following the recommendations of the consultation table (begun in August 2018). The mandate of Les Amis des Sentiers is therefore to maintain and develop the trails in a natural environment, summer and winter, while respecting the primary objective of preservation.
Signing of the agreement
Les Amis des Sentiers ratify a 5-year agreement with a start date of January 2021.
Inauguration of the reception pavilion
The new reception pavilion at Parc des Sommets, managed by the non-profit organization, will be inaugurated in the summer of 2022.
Eco-responsible certification
The Park has been awarded the “Excellence” certification by the Green Pages for its sustainable policies.
